Stationary Piston Samplers

Stationary piston samplers are commonly used to return undisturbed samples in soft soils. These samplers are designed with a piston that remains stationary as the outer tube of the sampler is pushed ahead into the formation. The suction created by the piston draws the sample into the outer tube. During operation, the piston closes the entrance of the sample tube, helping to eliminate the chance of contamination prior to pressing the tube into the formation.
